A family home arranged around a quiet central courtyard.
A multigenerational family home organised around a planted courtyard that brings light, air and calm into every room. Pale stone, warm timber and handcrafted metalwork create a restrained, tactile palette, while deep verandahs keep the house cool through the summer months. The result is a home that feels private and open at the same time.
The courtyard became the heart of the house — a shared outdoor room that every space looks into. We kept the palette quiet so that light and shadow become the main decoration.
The site was narrow and overlooked on two sides, yet the family wanted openness, privacy and generous daylight throughout.
We turned the plan inwards, placing living spaces around the courtyard and using screens, deep eaves and clerestory windows to bring in soft light while protecting privacy.
